Apple 1 Fails to Sell at Christie’s Auction!
After checking and rechecking auction results, the web and Twitter over the last few hours, I was surprised to learn by email from a Christie’s employee that the Apple 1 failed to sell. I thought that this current auction would join the two previous high-profile Apple 1 auctions with a high sales figure. Those were:
-$374,500 at Sotheby’s in June 2012 (first sold on eBay, see A)
-$212,267 (133,250 pounds) at Christie’s in November 2010 (first sold on eBay, see B)
Values are determined by supply and demand, so the base $80,062 (50,000 pounds) minimum bid was just too high I guess.
Also take a look at these interesting sales figures of Apple 1s on eBay in recent years:
-$75,600 in June 2012
-$22,766.66 in September 2010 (A)
-$42,766 in March 2010
-$50,000 in November 2009 (B)
- $17,000 in September 2009
There has been quite the wide range of perceived values, hasn’t there? We’ll see if the owner tries again with Christie’s, or maybe Sotheby’s, or perhaps even eBay in the near future.
